As we enter into May, we were excited to catch up with three of our new starters to discuss their new roles and gain an insight into their first few months working at Greycon.

Nick: My first few months at Greycon have provided me with many new exciting challenges in marketing. I soon found that no two days are the same, as the job involves working within every area of the marketing mix. The variety of tasks I carry out on a daily basis has led to a unique and beneficial learning experience.
Ben: Honestly, the beginning was a real whirlwind. There was a ton to learn, and those first couple of months went by in a blur. Since then I’m settling into my role and getting more comfortable with the work.
Juan: From day one I have felt very comfortable working with my new colleagues. I have enjoyed collaborating with colleagues from around the world who have been very supportive during my first few months. Initially, I started working in consultancy, but in my fourth month, I had the opportunity to integrate with the LATAM Sales Team. This was an exciting and challenging change and I am grateful for the growth opportunities that Greycon provide.
Nick: Back in 2018, I completed my Master’s Degree in Digital Marketing Management at Staffordshire University. Since then, I have carried out marketing roles in commercial property and financial software. Tasks carried out within these roles include managing marketing campaigns, email marketing, social media management, website maintenance and content creation. In particular, I have always enjoyed working within the software industry, which led me to work at Greycon.
Ben: I started out as a Process Engineer in a paper mill doing capital projects, and daily machine support. During this time I got involved with our ERP system, later becoming our site Super User/administrator. When the mill underwent a rebuild in 2017, I was heavily involved in developing the ERP/MES configuration for the new processes. After go-live, I moved into a more operations-focused supervisory role on the company’s new solvent saturator process.
After a year of working night shifts, I moved into our converting department, first as an engineer, then later as the Department Manager. I served in those roles for three years, maintaining equipment, supporting the operation (& ERP), and leading a team of twenty while we worked to grow the new business. Unfortunately, the mill ultimately closed, but I was fortunate to be able to leverage my ERP system experience into a position with the growing North America Greycon Professional Services Team.
Juan: I possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Systems alongside a Master’s in Management of Business and Technology Companies (MBA in MoT). Prior to working at Greycon, I worked as a CTO for a financial technology company. I also specialised in international commerce and digital transformation in a government agency. I have also worked in other areas of IT such as business intelligence and software development.
Nick: I have always been interested in the way that businesses present themselves online. Modern marketing delivers new and interesting approaches to the identity of companies in a constantly changing digital landscape.
I always find it rewarding to see the success a marketing campaign or piece of content can bring to the company. Marketing is always the face of any company and represents everyone within the business. By collaborating with employees who work in other areas of the business, marketing helps companies celebrate all employees working achievements and strengthen positivity throughout.
Ben: About a year into my new career as an engineer, my company asked if I’d like to get training and become our site’s Oracle Super User. I was initially reluctant since I didn’t have any real experience with systems like Oracle, and my degree was in chemical engineering. Then a close co-worker, who’d been the JD Edwards Super User, shared how valuable the experience had been for his career. Allowing him to take on new roles and opportunities he’d never had otherwise. So I agreed to learn more about Oracle and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
I was proficient with the system, and it was rewarding to solve problems, develop improvements, and help others learn. When the opportunity with Greycon opened up, I was eager to learn more. The engineer in me also finds it fulfilling to help our customers elevate their capabilities by reducing waste, and optimising their processes.
Juan: From an early age, I have always been interested in technology and this led to me starting programming. I chose this career because I like to solve problems and I have learned that there is always more than one way to do it. Over time, my interest has moved toward the area of team management and process improvements. This makes it possible to find creative ways to help our clients. Offering solutions is one of the things that I enjoy most about my role at Greycon.
Nick: When applying for jobs in tech, it is essential to find out as much as possible about the company and the services that they provide. Taking on a new challenge can be tough, but with the willingness to learn, you will persevere.
Ben: Career paths are not predefined. Don’t be afraid to take on a new challenge and learn something new.
Juan: You need to keep your mind open when working in technology as new solutions appear daily. It is best to keep evaluating solutions as what works today may not be the best solution for tomorrow.
